YOUR PET'S HEALTH STARTS HERE

Health Care That
Goes Beyond
the Basics

At North Davies Veterinary Hospital, each wellness exam gives Dr. Oas the opportunity to assess your pet’s overall health from nose to tail, evaluating weight, dental health, organ function, coat and skin condition, and any changes since their last visit. We are independently owned, which means you will never feel rushed. Dr. Oas takes time to answer your questions, explain her findings in plain language, and build a preventive care plan around your pet’s individual needs and your budget.

WHAT WE COVER

What's Included in a
Wellness Exam

During your wellness visit, Dr. Oas performs a full physical examination and reviews your pet’s medical history, vaccination status, parasite prevention, nutrition, and any concerns you have noticed at home. Wellness visits are also the right time to address life-stage needs, whether your pet is a new puppy or kitten just starting out, or a senior animal whose health is evolving.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Your Pet's Wellness Visit

Step 1: Health History Review

We start every appointment the same way: by asking how your pet has been. Any changes in behavior, appetite, sleep, or energy level are worth talking about. That kind of information helps Dr. Oas see the full picture before she even starts the exam, and it helps us catch things that might not show up any other way.

Step 2: Comprehensive Physical Exam

Dr. Oas will examine your pet from nose to tail, checking their eyes, ears, teeth, heart, lungs, abdomen, skin, coat, and joints. If she notices anything, she will explain it to you in plain language before making any recommendations. You should always understand what we are seeing and why it matters before we move forward.

Step 3: Preventive
Care Plan

Based on the exam, Dr. Oas will walk you through any recommendations, whether that is vaccinations, parasite prevention, dental care, or additional diagnostics. We explain the reasoning behind everything we suggest, and we work with you to prioritize care in a way that fits both your pet’s needs and your budget. You leave with a clear plan and no loose ends.

WHY WELLNESS VISITS MATTER

The Value of
Preventive Care

Pets age much faster than people, and health conditions can develop quickly, often without obvious signs. Annual wellness exams give Dr. Oas the chance to catch changes early, when they are most treatable and least costly to address. Skipping routine care does not just put your pet’s health at risk; it often leads to more significant medical expenses down the road. The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) recommends annual wellness exams for all adult pets to support long-term health and early disease detection.

FAQS

How often should my pet have a wellness exam?

Most healthy adult dogs and cats do well with a wellness exam once a year. Puppies and kittens generally need more frequent visits in their first year to complete their vaccination series and make sure their development is on track. For senior pets, typically dogs and cats seven years and older, twice-yearly exams are often a good idea since health changes can come on faster than we expect. Dr. Oas will help you figure out the right schedule for your specific pet based on their age, breed, and health history.

My pet seems healthy. Do they still need an annual exam?

Yes, and this is honestly one of the most important reasons to come in. Pets are incredibly good at masking discomfort and illness. Conditions like dental disease, early organ changes, and gradual weight shifts can progress significantly before they are obvious to anyone at home. Annual exams give Dr. Oas the chance to spot those changes early, when they are far simpler and less costly to address. A pet that seems perfectly fine is often the best candidate for preventive care.
